The Fitness Center

The Fitness Center is open to all fitness centerSonoma State University students and Campus Recreation members. The Fitness Center staff is happy to introduce you to any equipment you may have questions about. 

The Mauna Loa Fitness Center was named by SSU students to represent the strength and dominance of the Earth's largest and most active volcano.

Equipment Overview

The Fitness Center is loaded with state-of-the-art selectorized weight training equipment from Body Master and Paramount. It is kept clean and hygienic with the help of participants, as well as Fitness Center staff.

Additionally, the North Side of the Fitness Center is divided into two free weight areas, containing plate-loaded equipment and free weight benches by Tuff Stuff, Paramount and Body Master.

Cardio Equipment can be found both in the Fitness Center as well as Cardio Alley, located upstairs in the Recreation Center.

*Environmental Bonus! Our FreeClimbers®, Cycles, Elliptical Trainers and SCIFIT® are cordless - no electricity is required for their operation. YOU PROVIDE THE ENERGY!

Cardio Alley is located on the 2nd floor of the Recreation Center and includes an additional 18 pieces of cardio equipment:

  • StairMaster® FreeClimber® 4400CL
  • StairMaster® Momentum 3400CE Upright Bike

  • Concept2 Model D Indoor Rower

DIRECTV® satellite programming feeds the Fitness Center televisions. Bring your own set of headphones and plug-in to a Broadcast Vision™/Cardio Theater receiver (located on almost all of our cardio equipment) to listen to any one of our televisions during your cardio workout. The Fitness Center Staff will do their best to accommodate channel requests.
