Conservation
Clean water is a limited resource, so it is vital that we use it responsibly.
The SSU Recreation Center is one of the first buildings in Sonoma County to use reclaimed water in toilets and urinals. Reclaimed water is non-sewage water that has gone through treatment but has not been chlorinated for drinking. Reclaimed water can amount to 80% of waste water.
Low-flow faucets have an aerator installed in them to mix water with a steady flow of air, maintaining water pressure but cutting clean water consumption by as much as 40%, from 4 gallons per minute to 2.5. Some aerators can reduce water consumption to 0.5 gallons per minute, and generally cost less than ten dollars at hardware stores.
